WWE 2K22’s Executive Producer addresses concerns regarding the delay in the game's release and any upcoming news about the game.
Following the negative reception to WWE 2K20 in 2019, 2K Games decided to take one year off to try and release the best game possible when WWE 2K22 was released.
Normally, SummerSlam weekend plays host to the roster reveal and more game news concerning the upcoming WWE game release. This year, SummerSlam weekend came with a teaser trailer for WWE 2K22 and an announcement that the game would not be released until March of next year, with more development reveals and actual news about the game coming in January 2022. This makes 2021 the first year since 1997 without any kind of video game release from WWE.
Taking to Twitter to address concerns, the Executive Producer of the franchise, Patrick Gilmore, would say that WWE 2K19 and WWE 2K20’s online servers will remain active all the way through the launch of WWE 2K22. Patrick would also say that the marketing partners are 100% supportive of this decision everybody wants to ensure the best game possible for the community.
Gilmore would also say that, while he couldn't make any promises, they would try to come up with a way to let players see the progress of development as it unfolds.
I've heard some concerns about WWE2K22 going quiet until January. The challenge is that creating updates like the #SummerSlam trailer requires support from development, and we're trying to stay completely focused on making you the best game possible.

Just reassuring everyone that we're going to continue to support online services for WWE2K20 and WWE2K19 through the WWE2K22 release in March! Road to Glory and MyPlayer PPV Tower in WWE2K20 will sunset September 26. In-game messaging is automated, and may be incorrect...

Our marketing and community teams are 1000% supportive of our development focus. No promises, but we're talking about ways to share more about our progress to keep you all in the loop, so you won't have to wait until next year to learn more.
