The August 8 episode of WWE Raw will feature a United States Championship match.
On the August 1 episode, Ciampa defeated Dolph Ziggler and Chad Gable in a hard-fought triple threat match. Elsewhere on the show, AJ Styles emerged victorious in another triple threat match, which included Mustafa Ali and The Miz. Later in the night, the former NXT Champion faced "The Phenomenal One" in a singles bout where the winner would earn a shot at the gold.
The Miz was at ringside, and he was heavily involved throughout the contest. Despite Styles' best effort, "The A-Lister" cost him the match. When Styles wound up on the outside, The Miz grabbed his leg and nearly forced him to get counted out. He made his way back into the ring, but Ciampa blasted him with a knee strike and hit the Fairytale Ending for the victory. As a result, Ciampa will challenge Bobby Lashley for the gold next week.

Lashley retained the title by defeating Theory at WWE SummerSlam.
