The Young Bucks Say Cody Was Hit With "Gimmicked" Chair, Tony Khan Calls The Incident "Regrettable"

Tony Khan and The Young Bucks comment on Cody's unprotected chair shot.

Fans were stunned at AEW Fyter Fest when Cody Rhodes took an unprotected chair shot from Shawn Spears. The chair shot left Cody with 12 staples in the back of his head, but fortunately no concussion. Unprotected chair shots have become taboo in wrestling as they can cause concussions and have a lasting effect on the brain.

Speaking to the media following AEW Fyter Fest, AEW President Tony Khan addressed the chair shot.

"[We] called the doctor immediately. It's really regrettable what happened. I don't know if this is the time to go into detail, but we had taken precautions in that specific situation, and a doctor was available. Cody does not have a concussion, only staples, and we're very grateful for that."

Khan would later say, "It was unfortunate what happened. All I'm going to say right now is, you can build the safest airplane in the world, but if there's a pilot error, there's a pilot error. It was not good."

Khan did state that he will provide further details at a later date.

Co-Executive Vice Presidents The Young Bucks also addressed the spot in their media scrum following the show.

Nick Jackson said, "You think it was unprotected. That was all Cody's idea. I do know that they 'gimmicked' the chair and it clearly didn't work because he was bloody."
