WWE Tag Team Undergoes Gimmick Change

The Shining Stars are "no mas."

After getting moved to Smackdown during last week's "Superstar Shake-Up", Primo and Epico were referred to as "The Colóns" during last night's episode, which saw the duo defeat former Smackdown tag champions American Alpha.

WWE Raw (12/23) Records Decline In Average Viewership, Key Demo Rating Also Down

This is just the latest gimmick change for Primo and Epico, who have undergone a variety of creative revamps in the past several years since they began teaming regularly back in 2011. First billed simply as Primo and Epico, they started to portray a pair of masked bullfighters, Los Matadores, in the summer of 2013. That gimmick lasted until WrestleMania 31, and was followed by a yearlong absence from TV until they returned as The Shining Stars. Once again referred to as Primo and Epico, they praised the beauty of Puerto Rico, which eventually transformed into a comedy gimmick where they attempted to sell timeshares--usually to low-card babyface wrestlers on Raw.

Now moving to Smackdown, Primo and Epico's heritage in wrestling is being acknowledged moreso. Primo's father and Epico's uncle is Carlos Colon, the WWE Hall of Famer and legendary wrestler in Puerto Rico. Primo's older brother, Carlito, also had an extended run in WWE that included multiple championship reigns.
