Alberto El Patron has returned to prominence for Impact Wrestling, as has Paige within WWE. After months, El Patron has opened up on the breakup of the often tumultuous couple.
In an appearance on Keepin' it 100 with Konnan, El Patron, also known as Alberto Del Rio, said that travel conflicts ultimately led to the split.
"We decided to end our relationship because she's in Orlando, I'm in San Antonio, and now she's back on the road and the schedule over there is nonstop, my schedule is nonstop. We were not seeing each other. Because she was training and getting ready to go back, they were not letting her come to San Antonio. I couldn't go to Orlando because I have three little kids. I was coming home for two or three days and had to choose between going to Orlando or seeing my kids. Of course, I decided to stay with my kids. We both agreed not to say anything because we got tired of the media, people, everyone, having an opinion about us. Including family. We had an amazing relationship. We decided to do this because it was the best for our careers and for my kids."
El Patron/ Del Rio would go on to say that the airport situation in Orlando that caused his suspension was overblown, and that neither of the two hurt one another. El Patron was cleared by police of any domestic violence issues after their investigation.
