John Cena will be the sixth man in the championship match at WWE Fastlane.
The 16-time World Champion appeared on the February 27th episode of WWE Smackdown Live after months on and off on the Raw brand in an effort to get on the Wrestlemania show in a featured slot.
Cena hasn't had the hottest run on WWE pay-per-view of late. He lost to Roman Reigns at WWE No Mercy before taking a hiatus, Upon his return in November 2017, Cena was unceremoniously eliminated from Team Smackdown's Survivor Series Squad. His Royal Rumble appearance ended with him being eliminated, as did his participation in February's WWE Elimination Chamber top contender match.
When he appeared on Smackdown, he was joined in the ring by General Manager Daniel Bryan and Commissioner Shane McMahon. The following is an excerpt from Fightful's live coverage play-by-play of the opening segment of Smackdown.
John Cena comes out to the ring and talks about wanting a match at Wrestlemania before Shane McMahon comes out to the ring and talks about the fatal five-way before Daniel Bryan comes out to the ring. Daniel says that he agrees with Shane and that they will give John am opportunity to face AJ in the fatal five at WWE Fastlane. In the main event, John Cena defeated AJ Styles after a few Attitude Adjustments including one through a commentary table. After the match, the other men involved in the WWE Championship match Dolph Ziggler, Baron Corbin, Sami Zayn, and Kevin Owens came to the ring and a brawl broke out.
