AJ Styles Pitched A 'Beat Up John Cena' Shirt, Strongly Hints At Vince McMahon Scrapping The Idea

Looking back at the peak of his feud with John Cena, AJ Styles opened up about a scrapped t-shirt idea that the he believes fans would have loved.

When AJ Styles arrived to WWE in 2016, he would feud with John Cena during the summer. During that rivalry, AJ, Luke Gallows, and Karl Anderson repeat the phrase, "Beat up John Cena!" so much that it almost became a t-shirt.

However, during a Fanatics Live signing, Styles revealed that a certain powerful backstage influence stopped that idea. He indicated heavily through an impression that it was Vince McMahon.

"You know what? In the time everybody wanted me to beat up John Cena, it was amazing. I wanted a shirt that said ‘Beat Up John Cena.’ Somebody goes, [Vince McMahon impression] ‘We’re not going to do it.’ So, we didn’t. I’m sure some fans would’ve bought a ‘Beat Up John Cena’ shirt."
