Former Bellator MMA Welterweight Champion Andrey Koreshkov picked up a first round TKO win over the debuting Vaso Bakocevic at Bellator 203.
The win has turned out to be a big one for the former champion, as the fighter claims that Bellator officials will make him a participant in the upcoming welterweight grand prix.
“I’m (taking) part in the tournament, in the grand prix, and of course I’m very happy,” Koreshkov told MMA Junkie.
Koreshkov become the second fighter announced for the grand prix, with current Bellator MMA Welterweight Champion Rory MacDonald having previously been announced by the LA Times.
Even though he doesn’t know the rest of the participants yet for the grand prix, other than the aforementioned MacDonald, its not something the former champion is worried about right now.
“Right now, I don’t know,” Koreshkov said. “For me, it doesn’t matter.”
Despite the fact that there are still six spots left to fill for the upcoming welterweight world grand prix, first round action is going to begin this September at Bellator 205, which will stream live on DAZN. It is unknown if Koreshkov will compete on the opening night or at a later date.
