Anthony Johnson Is Making A Comeback Is Because He “Missed The Sport”

Anthony Johnson has a very simple reason for returning to combat sports.

The formerly retired Johnson recently re-entered the USADA testing pool and is planning on making an MMA return in 2021. A huge factor behind Johnson’s return to combat sports is because he missed the action.

“Honestly, I missed the sport,” said "Rumble" at a recent BKFC press conference (via Damon Martin of MMA Fighting). “I missed competing. So I know at one point I was against guys coming back from retirement. You usually see them getting mopped up. B.J. Penn came back got mopped. I’ve seen everybody that came out of retirement get mopped up.”

Johnson last competed at UFC 210 in April of 2017, suffering a second-round submission loss to former two-division UFC champion Daniel Cormier.

"Rumble" feels good about returning to action, but Johnson does nor want to get “mopped up” by today's crop of talent.

“I just don’t want to be one of those guys to get mopped up but I still feel good,” Johnson said. “I have no injuries. While I was in the UFC, I didn’t get hit much unless I lost and that wasn’t often.”

Johnson could potentially return to action around March 2021 after the drug testing period is complete.
