Dana White says Stipe Miocic could be in a subsequent UFC heavyweight title fight should he lose to Daniel Cormier at UFC 252.
White recently told The Schmo that Miocic is a likely contender for a heavyweight championship scrap with Francis Ngannou, should Cormier retire as heavyweight kingpin at UFC 252.
“It probably does. It would be hard to deny Stipe,” White told The Schmo, per MMA Fighting. “We’re saying that this Saturday, the greatest heavyweight ever is the winner of this fight, so to say he’s not good enough for another title fight for the vacant title would be crazy.”
“Francis is next in line,” White said of the next title challenger. “Again, we’ll see what happens on Saturday and then yeah, Francis is the guy.”
Cormier has insisted he plans on retiring following UFC 252 but White has expressed his doubts. Even Cormier's coach, Javier Mendez, expects to see D.C. back in the Octagon.
UFC 252 takes place on Saturday, August 15 from the UFC Apex in Las Vegas, Nevada. Miocic vs. Cormier 3 will serve as the headliner. Keep up with Fightful for all your event coverage.
