Rob Font is fresh off of a huge TKO win over Thomas Almeida, and has been granted the biggest fight of his career against Raphael Assuncao
Font (15-3) will take on Assuncao (26-5) at UFC 226 on July 7 at the T-Mobile Arena as part of UFC's International Fight Week. Assuncao has also signed a new four-fight contract with the UFC.
Fightful.com's James Lynch spoke to Font for an exclusive interview to discuss the news.
"I'm stoked for a big fight that will be a big win. He's a tough matchup all around, but Tyson (Chartier, his coach) will find holes in this guy's game, and when he finds it, I just have to go out there and do what I've been coached to do. I guarantee Tyson will find some holes in his game," said Font.
Font told Lynch that he sees Assuncao as more of a strategy fighter as opposed to a finisher. Font said he'll be looking for Assuncao's crafty ability as a veteran. He was also pleasantly surprised that he wound up on the UFC 226 pay-per-view card that will be headlined by Daniel Cormier and Stipe Miocic.
"We'll bring in certain guys, but the day-to-day stays the same. When it gets a little closer to the fight we'll really work on the strategy. I (was hoping) it'd be the pay-per-view. I made my debut at International Fight Week when Rousey fought Alexis Davis. July in Vegas, how can you not have fun?," Font said.
