Maycee Barber is making her UFC debut at UFC Fight Night Denver, fighting Hannah Cifers in a women’s strawweight division encounter.
Originally, a debuting Barber was supposed to fight Maia Stevenson at the event, but she isn’t shocked that Stevenson pulled out of the fight.
“My reaction was…I’m not surprised, Maia, as fair as I know, never signed the contract. She also didn’t post anything (on social media) and if you get a fight, especially in the UFC, I would think you’d be excited and you’d post about it or something like that. To hear that she was out with an injury didn’t really surprise me, I’ve kind of had to deal with that throughout my entire career so far. The new opponent…I got her, I think it was like the beginning of this week (that she found out about the opponent change). So about three weeks out and I got an opponent change, which is fine for me. I’ve been in camp for ten/twelve weeks now, just training and trying to make myself better and whoever they put in front of me…its gonna be good,” says Barber in an exclusive interview with Fightful’s James Lynch.
Both Barber and Cifers will make their UFC debuts in this bout, while doing so on a combined ten fight winning streak.
Even though there was a last minute change of opponent, it hasn’t changed the way Barber feels about how the bout will end on November 10.
“Obviously with my hand raised, but we’re going to do some looking in depth. I plan on finishing it, I wouldn’t mind a bonus either,” says Barber.
UFC Fight Night Denver takes place on Saturday, November 10 from the Pepsi Center in Denver, Colorado with Frankie Edgar and Chan Sung Jung headlining. Fightful is providing live coverage of the event, which airs live on Fox Sports 1.
