Rafael Carvalho has been cautious training at American Top Team (ATT) ahead of his fight at Bellator 245.
Carvalho is scheduled to meet LFA light heavyweight champion Alex Polizzi on Friday, September 11. Carvalho prepared for the fight at ATT and touched on the multiple COVID-19 cases coming out of the Florida-based gym.
"I really took care of myself. I followed all the protocols. The social distancing, wash my hands every time I can. I just go to the gym, work and leave," the former Bellator middleweight titleholder told Fightful. "Also, I need to take care because I have two newborns at home. I have two new babies. It's not all about me, it's about my kids. I really care about myself. So far, I did one COVID test and it was negative."
Carvalho (16-4) made his light heavyweight debut against Vadim Nemvok in October 2019. The former middleweight champ says 205 is his home for the foreseeable future.
"So far my mind is focused on light heavyweight," he assured. "But I can never say never to a move back to middleweight. I need some time to manage my diet and my life. It's not hard but it's not easy. You can never say never."
Bellator 245 takes place at the Mohegan Sun Arena in Uncasville, Connecticut on Friday, September 11. The card is headlined by Phil Davis vs. Lyoto Machida.
