Rob Font is less than a week away from competing at UFC 226 and his opponent on that night is going to be Raphael Assuncao.

UFC 223 was affected badly by the Conor McGregor bus attack and Font did try to help out by filling in for some of the affected fighters who were supposed to fight on the card.

“No, nothing at all (about UFC officials allowing him to fight at UFC 223). Obviously, I threw in my name to fight (Anthony) Pettis. Yeah…never, nothing. I even offered (myself up to fight Bruce Leroy (Alex Caceres), they (the UFC) didn’t reply,” says Font in an exclusive interview with Fightful’s James Lynch.

That UFC 223 card lost three fights due to the McGregor bus attack, including Michael Chiesa vs. Anthony Pettis, Ray Borg vs. Brandon Moreno and Alex Caceres vs. Artem Lobov.

Font could find himself in title contention with a win at UFC 226 and if Font gets the finish against Assuncao, a title shot is expected.

“Yeah, that’s the thing. I get in there and if I win, that would be cool. If I finish, I want the title shot,” says Font.

UFC 226 takes place on Saturday, August 4 from the Staples Center in Los Angeles, California with TJ Dillashaw and Cody Garbrandt headlining. Fightful is providing live coverage of the event, with a post-show podcast to follow.
