Islam Makhachev Wants Title Shot Following UFC 267 Win: "They Have To Give Me A Chance"

UFC lightweight contender Islam Makhachev made it clear he wants a title shot following his first-round submission win over Dan Hooker at UFC 267 over the weekend.

Makhachev spoke with the media during the post-fight press conference for the event and made it clear that after disposing of Hooker in just over two minutes to secure his ninth victory in the row, he wants the shot at the promotions 155-pound belt next.

“Next fight, it has to be for the title, or a contender fight, because I have a nine-fight winning streak,” Makhachev said (h/t MMA Fighting). “Who in my division have this? Just the champion. And I feel my division is a little bit asleep right now. I have to wake up my division because we have to change some things. The old guys from the top-five, they’ve already fought for the title – [Michael] Chandler, [Justin] Gaethje. That’s why we have to change something. They have to give me a chance. [UFC President] Dana [White] has to give me a chance.”
