Miguel Marriaga’s journey to a third world title challenge will have him fight this November on an upcoming ESPN+ card.
Top Rank Boxing announced that Marriaga will fight journeyman Jose Estrella as the co-feature fight for the November 3 ESPN+ card from El Paso, Texas. This will be the second fight for Marriaga after losing two straight losses, both world title fights.
After starting his career with a solid 25-1 record, Marriaga challenged for Oscar Valdez’s WBO featherweight in April 2017, but lost to Valdez by unanimous decision. Later that year, Marriaga would move up in weight to challenge for Vasiliy Lomachenko’s WBO super featherweight title, but Marriaga’s corner would stop the fight after the seventh round after Marriaga was knocked down twice in the bout. Marriaga bounced back from the two losses earlier this year when he knocked out Derlinson Buriel.
Estrella is a 10-year veteran from Mexico and sports a 20-14-1 career record. Estrella has fought a number of notable fighters throughout the years, including Diego De La Hoya, Luis Nery, Christopher Diaz and Oscar Negrete, but would end up on the losing side in each of those fights. Estrella’s last fight took place in August, losing a split decision to Ruben Garcia Hernandez.
The November 3 card, taking place at the Don Haskins Center, will be headlined by a WBC super featherweight title fight between Miguel Berchelt and Miguel Roman. Other fighters announced for the undercard are former Olympic gold medalist Robson Conceicao and once-beaten Vaughn Alexander competing in separate bouts.
