Former WBO strawweight champion Moises Fuentes underwent emergency surgery on Sunday morning to reduce swelling in his brain following his bout with David Cuellar on Saturday night.
ESPN's Mike Coppinger was the first to report the news of Fuentes' operation and condition following his sixth-round knockout loss to Cuellar, which also was Fuentes' third knockout loss in a row. His promoter Oswaldo Kuchle provided ESPN with the following statement on Fuentes surgery.
"His surgery went well, we believe that we could have more information in a couple of days," Kuchle said. "The next 72 hours is very critical to see how he recuperates from swelling in the brain. Right now he's stable. There's nothing to do but wait and see how he comes out of this."
