Nick Newell has been vocal about wanting a chance to fight in the UFC and now the competitor may have found a way into the promotion.
The fighter, who is a congenital amputee born without the lower portion of his left arm, but will fight later this year on Dana White’s Tuesday Night Contender Series and will earn a UFC contract with an impressive win.
“I want to thank Dana White, Sean Shelby and Mick Maynard for believing in me and giving me a shot,” Newell told Ariel Helwani of MMA Fighting. “I still have to go out there and deliver. I’m grateful for the opportunity.”
Newell has only suffered one defeat in his professional MMA career and that came to UFC veteran Justin Gaethje at the WSOF 11.
Ali Abdel-Aziz is Newell’s manager and he credits UFC President Dana White for making everything happen.
“I want to thank Dana White,” Abdel-Aziz said. “He’s been making dreams come true for 20 years, and he just made one of Nick’s biggest dreams become true. I’m grateful. Stuff like this makes me humble.”
There is no word yet on which episode of DWTNCS Newell will compete on, with the new season starting this June.
