Former two division UFC champion BJ Penn will get another chance for redemption later this year as Aaron Bronsteter of TSN is reporting that he’ll face Nik Lentz later this year in a lightweight division encounter.
Penn (16-14-2) enters the contest while in the midst of a seven fight losing streak and he hasn’t picked up a victory in nearly nine years. Penn is a former UFC Lightweight Champion and a former UFC Welterweight Champion, defeating Matt Hughes and Joe Stevenson to start both reigns. Penn’s last victory came at UFC 123 in November of 2010, with that win coming over the aforementioned Hughes via first round knockout.
Lentz (30-10-2-1NC) has won two of his last three under the UFC banner, with those wins coming over the duo of Scott Holtzman and Gray Maynard. Lentz has competed as a featherweight and lightweight in the UFC, earning an overall record of 14-7-1-1NC. In the promotion. Lentz has suffered a total of ten defeats as a professional MMA fighter and half of those losses came by way of decision.
There are still eighteen UFC events remaining until the end of this year, giving the promotion plenty of time to book the bout between Penn and Lentz.
