A featherweight division attraction has been added to UFC 231 according to Tarso Doria of MMA Brasil as #4 Renato Moicano faces #5 Chad Mendes.
Moicano (13-1-1) enters the bout on the strength of a two fight winning streak, having defeated the duo of Calvin Kattar and Cub Swanson. Moicano has suffered just a single defeat as a professional MMA fighter and that came against Brian Ortega at UFC 214. Moicano has seen seven of his fourteen professional MMA fights go the distance and Moicano has won all of those bouts.
Mendes (18-4-0) has won just one of his last three under the UFC banner and that lone win came over Myles Jury at UFC Fight Night Boise. Mendes has challenged twice before for the UFC Featherweight Title and once before for the UFC Interim Featherweight Title, losing all of those opportunities to Jose Aldo (twice) and Conor McGregor. Mendes has suffered four defeats as a professional MMA fighter and three of those losses have come by way of KO/TKO.
UFC 231 takes place on Saturday, December 8 from the Scotiabank Arena in Toronto, Ontario, Canada with Max Holloway and Brian Ortega headlining. Fightful is providing live coverage of the event, with a post-show podcast to follow.
