MMA

A middleweight division bout first reported by Ariel Helwani and Brett Okamoto of ESPN may be added to UFC 230 as #6 Derek Brunson faces #9 Israel Adesanya.

Brunson (18-6-0) has won two of his last three under the UFC banner, with those wins coming over the duo of Daniel Kelly and Lyoto Machida. Brunson hasn’t gotten out of the first round in a fight in almost two years, with a bout at UFC 208 being the last time he got out of the opening round. Brunson is also competing in a non-main event fight for the first time in over a year, but he does hold a record of 1-2-0 in UFC main event bouts.

Adesanya (14-0-0) has already picked up three victories in the UFC, with those wins coming over Rob Wilkinson, Marvin Vettori and Brad Tavares. Adesanya is going to be fighting for the fourth time in 2018, which ties 2016 for the most times Adesanya fought in a calendar year. Adesanya has picked up a total of fourteen wins as a professional MMA fighter, but he has yet to get a victory by way of submission.

UFC 230 takes place on Saturday, November 3 from Madison Square Garden in New York, New York with no main event announced at this time. Fightful is providing live coverage of the event, with a post-show podcast to follow.
