Mark Hunt may not be returning to the world of professional MMA anytime soon, but he will step into the boxing ring later this year.
The former UFC star is expected to face former rugby player turned professional boxer Paul Gallen this October, which Gallen revealed recently during an interview with 2GB Radio. A report from The Daily Telegraph states that the fight could be held at the Spark Arena in Auckland, New Zealand, but a location hasn’t been confirmed at this time.
Hunt and Gallen reportedly agreed to fight earlier this year, but the ongoing coronavirus pandemic caused the bout to be pushed back.
Gallen currently holds a 9-0-1 record as a professional boxer and five of them came by way of KO/TKO, while Hunt maintains an 0-1-1 record and he hasn’t competed in a boxing match in almost two decades.
This fight will mark the return to Hunt to combat sports, as Hunt left the UFC last year and has also been defeated by the promotion in all legal battles that have since followed. Hunt holds a 13-14-1-1NC record as a professional MMA fighter, having won just one fight in the last four-plus years.
