A women’s flyweight division bout is taking place at a yet to be announced UFC event this January according to MMA Fighting as #14 Paige VanZant faces Rachael Ostovich.
It should be noted that VanZant would deny that the fight is happening on her Twitter account, shortly after announcing a return to action was imminent.
VanZant (7-4-0) enters the contest while in the midst of a two fight losing streak, dropping bouts to the duo of Michelle Waterson and Jessica-Rose Clark. VanZant is also competing for the first time since suffering a broken arm at UFC Fight Night St. Louis, which required two surgeries to fix. VanZant previously competed as a strawweight in the UFC, earning a record of 4-2-0 in that weight class.
Ostovich (4-4-0) has won just one of two under the UFC banner, defeating Karine Gevorgyan and suffering a defeat to Montana De La Rosa. Ostovich competed on the UFC Ultimate Fighter 26, making it to the quarterfinals before losing to Barb Honchak. Ostovich went undefeated as an amateur MMA fighter, which includes a win over fellow UFC star JJ Aldrich.
The yet to be announced UFC event takes place on Friday, January 18 from a location to be announced with a main event to be announced. Fightful is providing live coverage of the event, while broadcast plans have yet to be announced.
