A heavyweight division fight has been added to UFC 256 as no. 7 Junior Dos Santos faces no. 13 Ciryl Gane.
UFC President Dana White revealed the promotion’s plans during a recent media scrum (via MMA Fighting), while MMA Fighting would later confirm an exact date.
Dos Santos (21-8-0) enters the potential contest riding a three-fight losing streak, dropping bouts to the trio of Francis Ngannou, Curtis Blaydes and Jairzinho Rozenstruik. Dos Santos has not picked up a win in almost two years with that last victory coming over Derrick Lewis at UFC Fight Night Wichita. Dos Santos is a former UFC heavyweight champion, defeating Cain Velasquez at UFC On Fox 1 to win the gold.
Gane (6-0-0) has already picked up three wins in the UFC with those victories coming over Raphael Pessoa, Don’Tale Mayes and Tanner Boser. Gane would be competing for the first time in about a year, as his last fight took place in December of 2019. Gane has competed six times as a professional MMA fighter and just one of those bouts went the distance.
UFC 256 takes place on Saturday, December 12 from a location to be announced and with a main event to be announced. Fightful is providing live coverage of the event, which streams live on ESPN+ pay-per-view.
