Fedor Emelianenko and Chael Sonnen both advanced to the semi-finals of the Bellator Heavyweight Grand Prix, now they will meet later this year to determine who goes to the finals.
Scott Coker is the Bellator MMA President and he says the highly anticipated bout will likely take place somewhere on the east coast.
“We’ve already talked to a couple of venues (on the east coast),” Coker said after Bellator 198. “We’re starting to work some things out. Now, we’ll start moving forward on Monday.”
There is no word yet on which location the event could happen at, although the promotion has run an event at Madison Square Garden in the past. Sonnen has already went into promotion mode, calling out Fedor as a "curtain jerker."
Coker also expects that the entire fight card for the potential east coast event is going to be a loaded one.
“The next fight card that Fedor fights in for the semifinals is going to be a stacked card, once again,” he said.
Whomever walks away winning that bout between Emelianenko and Sonnen could meet one of three opponents in the grand prix finals, with those options being Matt Mitrione, King Mo and Bellator MMA Light Heavyweight Champion Ryan Bader.
