Bellator women’s featherweight champion Cris Cyborg has shown an interest in boxing Katie Taylor and now the dialogue has apparently begun between Bellator President Scott Coker and promoter Eddie Hearn.
Coker says the talks have begun for the cross over fight, but its up to Cyborg and her management to get the job done.
“There is dialogue between Eddie Hern and myself and I said I would hit him up after the show is over and we’ll continue talking,” Coker said at the Bellator 249 post-fight press conference (via Danny Segura and Nolan King of MMA Junkie). “Again, it’s going to be up to Cris to see what she wants to do. I know she’s like it’s up to us (Bellator), but really it’s up to her and her management to see what way they want to head.”
Cyborg has no professional boxing experience to speak of, while Taylor holds a 16-0-0 record as a pro boxer. The Bellator President says Hearn should put the bout together to see who the greatest female combat sports athlete is.
“We’ll have to work it out and it depends on what Cyborg wants to do,” Coker said. “If Eddie Hern wants to see who’s the best female combat star in capability, then he should think about it.”
