A pair of fights have been added to next month’s UFC On Fox 23 card as Brad Tavares faces Hector Lombard and Jason Gonzalez faces JC Cottrell.
Tavares (14-4-0) has won two of his last five under the UFC banner, those wins have come over Nate Marquardt and Caio Magalhaes. Tavares once had a five fight winning streak in the UFC, with notable wins coming over Tom Watson and Lorenz Larkin. Tavares was a cast member on the UFC Ultimate Fighter 11, he has been with the UFC for nearly six years now.
Lombard (34-6-1-2NC) enters the fight riding a two fight losing streak, with those losses coming to Neil Magny and Dan Henderson. Lombard is a former Bellator MMA Middleweight Champion, he vacated the championship upon signing with the UFC. Lombard hasn’t earned a victory in over two years -- his last win came over Jake Shields by decision at UFC 171.
Gonzalez (10-3-0) is currently winless under the UFC banner, dropping a fight to Drew Dober by knockout at UFC 203. Gonzalez entered the UFC on a six fight winning streak, with four of those wins coming in the Gladiator Challenge promotion. Gonzalez also fought once in the Resurrection Fighting Alliance, defeating Chris Padilla by TKO at RFA 38.
Cottrell (17-4-0) is also winless at this point in his UFC run, having dropped a fight to Michel Prazeres at UFC On Fox 20. Cottrell is also a former Battlegrounds MMA Lightweight Champion, he defeated Jarrod Card to win the championship. Cottell has also held the King Of The Cage Lightweight Title and the Xtreme Fight Night Lightweight Champion.
UFC On Foxx 23 takes place on Saturday, January 28 from the Pepsi Center in Denver, Colorado with no headliners announced as of yet.
