New NXT Signee Had Been On WWE's Radar For Months

One former TNA Knockout recently signed with WWE, but it wasn’t a quick process in signing her.

According to a report by PWInsider’s Mike Johnson, Trinidad is someone WWE has been pursuing since The Rock pushed for her to play the role of AJ Lee in the upcoming Fighting with My Family WWE Studios film.

Thea Trinidad, formerly known as Rosita back in TNA, debuted on NXT in the June 7 episode. She confronted Andrade "Cien" Almas as he was on his way to a party with a pair of ladies. In the segment, Trinidad asked Almas, "Is this what you are now?" He answered yes and she slapped him.

Trinidad sat ringside for Almas’ match against Kassius Ohno at an April tapings, but was not shown on camera when the match was aired. Trinidad was a former TNA Knockouts Tag Team Champion and wrestled there from 2011-13. She actually had her NXT in-ring debut back in 2016, when she lost a match against NXT Women’s Champion Asuka.

She first had a tryout with WWE all the way back in 2013, later making a cameo with both Adam Rose as one of his “Rosebuds” and then appearing in a backstage segment with Tyler Breeze at the NXT TakeOver: Fatal 4 Way WWE Network-exclusive show back in 2014. Trinidad has been a professional wrestler since 2010.
