NJPW Finds New Color Commentator For English Broadcasts

Don Callis is replacing Steve Corino as the color commentator for New Japan Pro Wrestling's Englush language broadcasts.

Callis, who was known as The Jackyl in WWF and Cyrus in ECW, made the announcement on the latest episode of his Killing The Town podcast, which he co-hosts with former WWE, WCW, and ECW star Lance Storm.

Callis also posted the following tweet:

Corino, who started his job at the WWE Performance Center last week, worked his final NJPW broadcast January 4 for Wrestle Kingdom 11, from the Tokyo Dome.

All English-language broadcasts air on New Japan's online streaming service, NJPW World. Kevin Kelly, who is also the lead broadcaster for Ring of Honor, will remain the play-by-play broadcaster for the New Japan broadcasts as well.

NJPW World got a big boost in subscriptions from Wrestle Kingdom. On commentary at New Years Dash the following night, Corino said that the service gained 10,000 new subscribers the day of the Tokyo Dome show.

NJPW already has announced the following 2017 events will have English commentary:

March 6: 45th Anniversary
March 20: New Japan Cup finals 
April 9: Sakura Genesis
May 3: Wrestling Dontaku
June 3: Best of the Super Juniors tournament finals
June 11: Dominion
July 1: G-1 special in Long Beach, CA
July 2: G-1 special in Long Beach, CA
July 17: G-1 Climax 27 opener 
August 11: G-1 Climax 27, A Block finals
August 12: G-1 Climax 27, B Block finals
August 13: G-1 Climax 27, championship finals
