UFC Veteran Hops The Cage At Fight Nights Global Event

MMA

The Russia based Fight Nights Global promotion put on a star-studded event this past Monday (9/4) featuring UFC veterans Rousimar Palhares, Fabio Maldonado and Diego Brandao all competing.

While the majority of the show went off without any real problems, there was a lot of chaos during a featherweight division fight between Brandao and Akhmed Aliev.

Late in the second round of their bout, the Russian fighter in Aliev nailed Brandao with a few illegal strikes during a referee initiated stand up. Brandao responded by nailing Aliev with an illegal kick to the neck a few moments later, which caused the referee to get in between the fighters in an attempt to cool things down.

Brandao, who was apparently angered beyond control by the whole situation, simply hopped over the cage wall and left the area while the fans in attendance hurled various projectiles at him.

Due to the UFC veteran exiting the cage in the manner he did, the referee awarded the fight to Aliev by fighter retirement.

Prior to the incident, the UFC veteran had found some success in the promotion, earning two victories, it is unknown at this time how the cage hopping incident will affect his future in Fight Nights Global.

You can hear Fightful's Holy Smokes MMA Podcast hosts Sean Ross Sapp and Showdown Joe speak of the incident on their latest show.
