AJ Styles On Facing Cody Rhodes At WWE Backlash: 'It’s Fun To Be In The Same Ring For The First Time'

AJ Styles is glad that he gets to wrestle Cody Rhodes at Backlash.

The match between Styles and Rhodes at Backlash will be contested for the Undisputed WWE Championship. It will be Rhodes' first televised defense of the title since winning the belt at WrestleMania XL.

Furthermore, it will be the first time that Styles has competed in a singles match for a world title since Night Of Champions 2023, when he faced Seth Rollins in a bout to determine the winner of the brand new World Heavyweight Championship.

While speaking to Shakiel Mahjouri for a new interview, Styles spoke about his match with Rhodes and noted that he's glad it will be a first time matchup.

“Well, it’s definitely new. That’s always good, especially when you’ve been doing it for 25 years, that likely doesn’t happen. When I got to WWE, Cody was there. He left and now he’s back, we never had that opportunity to get in the ring with each other. He’s such a star right now, it’s ridiculous. It’s fun to be in the same ring, doing it for the first time, and it’s in a different country. It ranks pretty high up there.”
