Chad Gable comments on Shorty G.
From late 2019 to late 2020, Chad Gable was known as Shorty G within WWE. The gimmick was largely hated by fans and never really went anywhere, resulting in a reversion back to his standard ring name in November 2020.
While speaking to The Ringer Wrestling Show for a new interview, Gable was asked about the gimmick and said that he was begging for an opportunity at the time.
"No, that’s never been a real thing and not an issue. The funny part about it is, when I was Shorty G for awhile, I was doing a lot of backstage stuff where people talk about it. Half the people I was doing it with, I was either as tall as or they were an inch taller than me. I’m like, ‘This doesn’t quite make a ton of sense.’ I had begged for an opportunity at the time. Anything, because I wasn’t doing anything. Who am I to complain if they’re going to give me something? I have to use it to the best of my ability. I wasn’t going to boo boo face it. ‘Oh, this is not what I wanted to do.’ It was something. In the grand scheme of things, we can look back on it now and it’s one of those things we just discussed, if you’re in it for the long run, it’s something I had to overcome and get through. Had I put my boo boo face on and took my ball and went home and said, ‘I’m done with this crap,’ then where would we be now? I’m in the best spot I’ve ever been in and it’s partially because of the Shorty G period. You can look at it in a negative way or you can find the silver lining."
El Grande Americano, not Chad Gable, picked up a win over Rey Fenix at WrestleMania 41. Learn more about the match result here.
