Aubrey Edwards Names Bryan Danielson vs. Zack Sabre Jr As Favorite Match She's Refereed

Bryan Danielson and Zack Sabre Jr clashed at AEW WrestleDream in a dream match between two of the best technical wrestlers in history.

The bout took place in Danielson's home state of Washington, serving as a homecoming for "The American Dragon."

It was also a homecoming for Aubrey Edwards, who was the referee for the bout.

"I think the one that stands out the most in my mind is WrestleDream last year with Bryan Danielson versus Zack Sabre Jr," Aubrey said on Casual Conversations With The Classic when asked for her favorite match that she's refereed. "I remember when it got announced, I saw the graphic backstage, and I immediately text Paul Turner, who’s our senior official and does all the assignments. I go, ‘Paul, I know I don’t ask for anything often, but this was literally my dream match before I ever stepped into the ring, so can I please do this?’ He said, ‘Sure, yeah, no problem.’ Then the day of, we actually found out that it was right before the Jericho match, so I had to do a hour straight in the ring for that show. I was sick the weekend before, so I could only breathe out of one nostril, and both my matches went extremely well, so I’m like, ‘Dude, this is my [Michael] Jordan flu game. This is awesome.” [Laughs] But also incredible. Bryan Danielson’s one of the greatest of all time, if not the greatest of all time. Zack Sabre Jr. is one of the best technical wrestlers of all time, and seeing those two guys step in the ring, and being a part of it, I love technical wrestling, so being a part of that was both meaningful for me as a referee as it was a true masterclass of, this is a number of skillsets that we have to teach referees as they’re coming up in the indies, but also just as a fan, I’m sitting there like, ‘How freaking cool is this?’"

Danielson was victorious at WrestleDream, which was the first bout between the two men since 2009. They would rematch at NJPW The New Beginning In Osaka 2024, with ZSJ picking up the victory.
