Awesome Kong discusses her departure from AEW.
Former TNA Knockouts Champion Awesome Kong was with AEW in its early days, as she debuted at their inaugural Double or Nothing pay-per-view. She joined The Nightmare Collective with Brandi Rhodes but later left the company after she was written off of television in early 2020; AEW opted not to renew her contract on June 1, 2021.
Speaking on Victoire, Awesome Kong was asked about her time in AEW and her exit from the company.
"I had just started out with AEW almost like a year before the pandemic, at the beginning of 2019. Whenever AEW started, I was there, and then in the middle…I had to leave for a little bit to go shoot GLOW, and then while we were shooting GLOW, the pandemic happened, and because of certain ailments that I have, I could not travel, and god bless them, AEW paid me way longer than I thought they would or should, and we just parted ways because I couldn’t come back, and why keep paying someone? We parted amicably, seriously. They paid me way longer than I would’ve paid somebody who’s not coming in for a job. I’m just saying, so yeah," Kong said.
Kong previously said that she felt unheard and that she wasn't in control in AEW. Click here to see what she had to say.
