Becky Lynch: I Don't Need A Title, Our Division Needs More Stories That Don't Revolve Around Titles

Becky Lynch says the title doesn't make her, she makes the title.

Becky Lynch has held the Raw and SmackDown Women's Championships, among other accolades. However, she is currently in a drought, as she last held a singles title on the main roster in 2022; Bianca Belair dethroned her to win the Raw Women's Championship at WrestleMania 38. Lynch has since held the WWE Women's Tag Team Championship and the NXT Women's Championship.

In an interview with Sports Illustrated, Becky Lynch commented on her long run without winning a singles title on the main roster.

“That’s what women’s wrestling needs. We should all be focused on the future of the industry. That’s bigger than me. I don’t need a title. The title doesn’t make me–I make the title. I have enough stories that I don’t need the title. NXT, that’s a place that does a great job with multiple stories with women that don’t all revolve around a title. That’s what our division needs, more stories that don’t revolve around a title," Lynch said.

Lynch also emphasized that she values working with members of the roster who don't always get a chance in the spotlight, and she highlighted her brief feud with Xia Li as an example. She noted that doing the work is hard, but it allows her to elevate those around her.

“It’s doing the work when the work is hard and not always rewarding, but you’re elevating everyone around you. I headlined a WrestleMania. I have that experience. I headlined Raw, I headlined live events. When I came in, women didn’t even main-event live events on a consistent basis. So to get in the ring with Xia Li, who hadn’t even had a two-segment match to that point, it’s really important," Lynch said.

Lynch also noted that driving the business as a whole forward means a lot to her, and she is focused on the growth of the women's division. She shared her intent to give hopes and dreams to other people as well.

“That’s when I do my best work, when I’m overlooked and people doubt me. The division needs to grow. Now I can give hopes and dreams to other people, too. Driving the business forward, that’s what this is all about," Lynch said.
