Bret Hart Says He Apologized To Rita Chatterton, Now Believes Her Accusations Against Vince McMahon

TRIGGER WARNING

In 1992, former WWE referee Rita Chatterton accused Vince McMahon of raping her. The allegations resurfaced in 2022 after a report uncovered legal demands from two women who previously accused McMahon of sexual assault.

Chatterton was one of the women named in the report and it was said she was asking for asking for $11.75 million.

McMahon reached a multi-million dollar settlement with Chatterton in January 2023.

Speaking to Abraham Josephine Riesman of Slate, Bret Hart said he apologized to Chatterton at a recent convention after initially not believing her story.

“I just didn’t believe it,” Hart said. “I figured Vince had too much at stake to ever do something like that. I apologized from the bottom of my heart, and I said, ‘I believe that what happened to you, happened to you, and I apologize. I was wrong.’"

In January 2024, Janel Grant filed a lawsuit against Vince McMahon, accusing him of sex trafficking, emotional abuse, and sexual assault.

McMahon has denied the allegations and said, through a spokesman, that he will vigorously defend himself.
