Brian Cage Awarded FTW Championship By Taz On AEW Fyter Fest

The FTW Championship is back.

The creator of the "FTW" Championship has brought it back after over 20 years. Taz appeared on the July 8 Fyter Fest show and announced that while tonight was supposed to see Brian Cage take on Jon Moxley for the AEW Championship, Cage would leave with a title. He then awarded Cage the FTW Championship.

Cage and Moxley are set for their title match next week, which was delayed when Jon Moxley's wife Renee Young tested positive for COVID-19.

Taz debuted the FTW Championship in May 1998 as an unrecognized title belt to rival the ECW World Championship. Sabu would be the only other man to hold the title, and in the interim, Taz became ECW Champion. The two would square off at Living Dangerously 1999 and unify the titles. It would never be used again.

There were two versions of the title, belt, with the more modern, customized version being used on All Elite Wrestling programming. Though ECW is owned by WWE, they've never used the title in any capacity, but did cover it on the Rise And Fall Of ECW documentary
