Britt Baker Discusses Criticism Of Women's Hardcore Matches, Whether Or Not She Thinks They're 'Fun'

Britt Baker discusses criticisms of women in hardcore matches.

Britt Baker is undoubtedly one of the most important women in the short history of the AEW women's division. Part of her legacy, and the legacy of women's wrestling in AEW overall, is the hardcore match types women have been involved in at AEW.

Speaking with Simon Miller of WhatCulture, Baker discussed criticisms of women being placed in these scenarios, saying that women can't be put in a box without the expectation that they're going to break out of it and believes that if fans like hardcore wrestling, they should like that style no matter who is competing in the match.

"I think at the end of the day, people like what they like, and they hate what they hate, but you can't put women in a box and not let them break out of it. If you like hardcore matches, then you should like hardcore matches. It shouldn't matter who's in the ring. If it's a good match, it's a good match, no matter who's on either side of the ring. That's kind of what I feel about it," said Baker.

Asked about whether or not she enjoys competing in the matches and looks at them as fun, Baker says that they are not fun, and they do hurt for a long time. Still, she's proud of what she's been able to accomplish for herself and for women's wrestling overall.

"It's definitely not fun. It hurts. For a long time, too, it does hurt. But I wouldn't take back anything that I've done. I'm proud of it. I'm proud of what it did for AEW, for myself, and for women's wrestling," she said.

One person who does enjoy what hardcore matches entail is Tay Melo. The mom-to-be was recently quoted as saying she has found her specialty in those matches. Read more here.

Britt Baker's dance partner for most of those matches, Thunder Rosa, has stated in the past that she believes the two of them will always be bonded for what they have created for women's wrestling. Read more here.
