Mystery solved.
Carmelo Hayes showed his true colors at the end of NXT Vengeance Day, attacking Trick Williams. Hayes targetted the knee of Williams, taking him down with a chop block and then repeatedly smashing a chair into Trick's knee.
The attack came after Trick Williams failed to capture the NXT Championship from Ilja Dragunov in the main event of NXT Vengeance.

Tension had been brewing between the two since the October 17 episode of NXT, when Trick Williams was attacked ahead of a #1 Contender's Match for the NXT Championship. Carmelo Hayes would go on to win the match.
For months Hayes and Trick tried to figure out who was behind the attack as Hayes accused NXT Champion Ilja Dragunov and Lexis King.
Earlier in the night, Trick and Melo lost in the NXT Dusty Rhodes Tag Team Classic Finals to Bron Breakker & Baron Corbin.
