Carmelo Hayes: Winning The United States Title Is My Destiny, It's The Perfect First Title

Carmelo Hayes believes that the United States Championship is his fate.

Since coming to the main roster, Carmelo Hayes has established himself as one of SmackDown's rising stars, facing off against the likes of Randy Orton, Cody Rhodes, and LA Knight. More recently, Hayes has been involved in a heated feud with Andrade, with the two stars having five singles matches since July.

While speaking to The Ringer's Masked Man Show for a new interview, Hayes said that winning the United States Championship is his fate on SmackDown.

“It’s inevitable. It’s my fate, it’s my destiny, you know what I mean? The United States championship, you look at all of the guys that held that previously, it’s the perfect first title for a guy. Especially a guy like me, who does take a lot of pride in my work rate. They talk about the mid card titles being the work rate titles, the Intercontinental and things like that. I definitely take pride in my work, so I want to excel in other areas as well and I think that’s the perfect title to learn. To be in that position where you have people coming after you is the perfect time to learn, that’s why I think I enjoy being champion so much in NXT because it was like, you come for me, you come for me, and that makes me have to work harder.”

Andrade will be the next wrestler in line for a shot at the title, as he defeated Hayes in a United States Championship number one contenders match on the September 13 edition of WWE SmackDown.
