Charlotte does it for an eighth time.
Ths issues between these three women date back months ago as Carmella became SmackDown Live Women’s Champion by defeating Charlotte Flair by cashing in the Money In The Bank contract the Tuesday after WrestleMania 34. Carmella went on to defeat Charlotte once again at ‘Backlash’ and throughout the summer of 2018 “The Princess Of Staten Island” went on to defeat Asuka twice with the help of James Ellsworth.
While all this was transpiring, the first-ever SmackDown Live Women’s Champion Becky Lynch strung together a number of victories which put her in a position to challenge Carmella one-on-one during an episode of SmackDown. Becky Lynch won the match which led to a SmackDown Live Women’s Championship match between Carmella and Becky Lynch being made official for SummerSlam. The following week on SmackDown Carmella’s trash-talk to the GM Paige resulted in a match between Charlotte and Carmella being made and if Charlotte beat Carmella then Charlotte was going to be added to the SmackDown Live Women’s Championship match at SummerSlam and that is how we have arrived to August 19th at the Barclays.
The match saw both Charlotte and Becky Lynch's friendship be put on halt and as the match neared its end it showed even more. Becky Lynch had Carmella trapped in the middle of the ring with the "Dis-Arm-Her" locked in and out of nowhere came Charlotte Flair with a "Natural Selection" to Becky Lynch and in that moment Charlotte secured the victory to become an eight-time WWE Women's Champion.
Following the match Becky Lynch and Charlotte embraced one another but it did not last long as Becky Lynch physically displayed that she is tired of being in Charlotte's shadows. Becky laid waste to Charlotte in the middle of the ring and closed out her attack by tossing Charlotte over the announce table as the Barclays Center crowd backed Becky as she released her built-up frustration.
