Hiroshi Tanahashi now has a possible future AEW title shot at stake when he faces Chris Jericho at next week's Wrestle Kingdom show at the Tokyo Dome.
After Tanahashi spoke about possibly challenging for the AEW World Championship Jericho holds should he beat him at Wrestle Kingdom, Jericho came out with a response. Jericho said he liked the idea that if Tanahashi beats him, he should get a chance to wrestle for the title and asked Tony Khan if that can be made.
According to Jericho, Khan said yes to the idea and so, if Tanahashi can beat Jericho at Wrestle Kingdom 14, then he will grant the former IWGP Heavyweight Champion a shot at the AEW title.
Jericho posted his response in the Instagram post below.
"Tanahashi or should I say Baka-hashi because what you don't know is that I read perfect Japanese and I read about what you said about the Tokyo Dome. You said if you can beat me, that you will enter the forbidden portal and request a title shot for the AEW World Championship. I thought it was a great idea and Le Champion asked the chairman of the board, the owner of AEW, Tony Khan, if it was okay to grant your request and he said yes. So, if you can beat me at the Tokyo Dome, I will give you a championship match for the AEW title. Alright Tanahashi? So Le Champion, the Pain Maker Chris Jericho is willing to give you a shot at this championship if you can beat me at the Tokyo Dome. You think you can do it? I don't, but we'll find out in just a few days. Sayonara."
Fightful will have live coverage of both days of Wrestle Kingdom 14 on January 4 and 5.
