Christian made his shocking return at the 2021 WWE Royal Rumble, and wouldn't commit to anything in the future after the match, saying "I only promised one more match, that could be it."
If it's not, he technically still has a title shot coming due, and it's got some incredible timing.
On March 24, 2014, Christian competed in his last match before concussion issues would leave him on the shelf for almost seven years. He'd defeat Sheamus, Alberto Del Rio and Dolph Ziggler in a WWE Raw match that tore the house down. The winner was promised a WWE Intercontinental Title shot.
The champion at that time? Big E, who just so happens to be the current WWE Intercontinental Champion.
Big E sat at ringside during the match and scouted his potential competition, offering a handshake to Christian after the match. Christian didn't accept, and the match was scheduled to take place the following night on Main Event. It never happened, and Christian wouldn't wrestle another actual match until the Royal Rumble 2021, outside of an "unsanctioned" match with Randy Orton in 2020 that went all of one minute.
Instead, Big E defended the title the next night against Dolph Ziggler, emerging victorious.
