Cody Rhodes says leaving AEW was the easiest thing he ever did.
Rhodes helped found AEW, and he was one of its Exeuctive Vice Presidents along with the Young Bucks (Matt Jackson and Nick Jackson) and Kenny Omega. Cody was arguably the face of the company, and he won the TNT Championship three times. He left AEW in February 2022 and returned to WWE at WrestleMania 38. Since then, he has become one of WWE's top stars.
Speaking with GQ Sports, Rhodes was asked whether it was hard to close the AEW chapter of his life and leave the company. He responded by stating that it was the easiest thing he ever did.hard to close that chapter of your life and walk away from AEW, a company you helped start?
"No, it was the easiest thing I ever did. It's because I had a personal issue that I wasn't going through, over, or around. I was just going to steer clear of it. If anything, I wanted to look at what we had done at AEW and say, 'Amazing, what a wonderful time, a beautiful memory, and very special in every way. Now it's time to move on.' You know, all good things. It certainly was like that with me. So I mean it not in a negative way, like I was happy to burn rubber and speed out, but it just wasn't a decision that was difficult for me at all. Or for Brandi [Rhodes, his wife and former AEW executive," Rhodes said.
