AKIRA: In The Deathmatch World, A Lot Of People Use Weapons To Cover Up What Charisma They Don’t Have

AKIRA is more than your average deathmatch performer.

Throughout his career, AKIRA has seemingly mastered the balance that comes with being a standard wrestler and a deathmatch wrestler. Between his technically great bouts with wrestlers like Mike Bailey/KENTA and his praised deathmatches with names like Masashi Takeda/Cole Radrick, Bailey is considered to be one of the most versatile young stars in wrestling.

While speaking with Jeremy Lambert and Joel Pearl of Fightful Overbooked's In The Weeds podcast for a new interview, AKIRA said that he doesn't use deathmatches to cover up his lack of wrestling ability like other names do.

"I don’t want to be just fluorescent deathmatches. I’m very much over the pro wrestling craze that everyone has been going through. It’s a cope and a cover for people’s inability to wrestle, especially now in the United States. What touches people the most in deathmatch wrestling is still the pro wrestling. A lot of people use weapons and fluorescents to cover up what charisma they don’t have. Luckily, I have an abundance of."
