Shaquille O'Neal made a bold statement in an interview on Tuesday, saying his AEW Dynamite match would be the top celebrity match in wrestling.
Pat McAfee took exception to Shaq's comments, leading to Miro joking that Pat isn't a celebrity, to which Pat replied by thanking Miro for considering him a wrestler.
Cody Rhodes was asked by WrestleZone's Bill Pritchard on the AEW Revolution media call if he feels extra pressure facing a celebrity, which Cody has experience with as he's worked with Stephen Amell in the ring. Before he answered the question, Cody addressed McAfee and said, "I didn't see this particular comment, especially from Pat, which is super bizarre because I'm pretty sure Pat is trying to get a job at AEW like every other day, but that's another conversation."
McAfee immediately addressed Cody's comments on The Pat McAfee Show.
"Cody Rhodes just said I've been trying to get employed by AEW or whatever every other day. I'd like that to be known that is not true. I've actually contemplated retirement more than I've contemplated going to AEW. I have been in a spat with Miro, and we flipped the script on him, and Shaq. I have to watch that match tonight. Aside from that, I am not [reaching out to AEW]. I would like that to be clear," said McAfee.
McAfee has wrestled two matches for NXT, including WarGames in December. He appeared on the February 17 episode of NXT to gloat about being correct in his assessment of Adam Cole, who recently turned his back on Undisputed ERA.
