Damian Priest reflects on the trust that Triple H gave him when he first entered NXT.
Damian Priest is similar to Dave Bautista (Batista) and Diamond Dallas Page in that he is a late bloomer in the wrestling industry. Priest got his start with WWE in the NXT system and immediately became a top star during the final flickers of the Triple H-led black and gold brand.
In a new interview with Justin Barrasso of Undisputed, Priest spoke about how honored he was to have been put in a leadership position by Triple H so early on in his WWE tenure.
“Triple H had faith in me,” said Priest. “He put me in a leadership position when I came in. When something was going wrong and we’d have these all-in meetings, he’d say, ‘Let the talent handle this.’ He’d say, ‘Priest, be the one who talks.’ This was the Adam Cole, Undisputed ERA, and there were a lot of stars here. I felt honored.”
That faith eventually led Priest to his first WWE World Heavyweight Championship at WWE WrestleMania XL, when he cashed in his Money in the Bank briefcase on Drew McIntyre.
He will face Drew McIntyre in a Sin City Street Fight this year at WrestleMania. Learn more about that here.
