Davey Richards, one-half of The Wolves tag team with Eddie Edwards, announced today that he is leaving GFW Impact to focus on his lifelong dream of becoming a doctor.
Today I came to terms with GFW for my release.
This story, however, is a happy one. I have nothing but good memories and great things to say about my time there.
Truth is, I love wrestling. But my goal is to be a doctor. I have managed my time in doing both my school, my job as a paramedic, being a dad, and a wrestler as best I could for as long as I could. But the demands as I head into the last couple of years of medical school have brought me to a point where I have to choose one or another.
So with GFW's blessing I have chosen medical school.
Thank you to everyone at GFW and its great fans for an awesome journey. I can still take independent bookings on a limited basis for the time being
Richards turned heel on Eddie earlier this year and had a mixed-tag match with his wife Angelina Love against Edwards and his wife Alisha at Slammiversary XV.
It should be noted that there is an entire Reddit thread dedicated to Richards' history of leaving various federations and announcing multiple retirements, so perhaps this should be taken with a grain of salt.
But the fact remains that about 5 hours before announcing his pseudo-retirement, Richards posted this:
So it certainly seems like this is a new direction for his career.
Fightful wishes him all the best.
