Dominik Mysterio has set his sights on the title currently held by Cody Rhodes for his own personal reasons.
Cody Rhodes worked his entire career to capture the WWE Championship and finally achieved that dream at WWE WrestleMania XL when he defeated Roman Reigns. Cody did this for the memory of his father, Dusty Rhodes, who was never able to be recognized as WWE Champion officially. Roman Reigns held the championship for well over 1300 days, doing so for the entire legacy of his Bloodline both in front of and behind the camera.
During a recent interview with ESPN Daytona, Dominik Mysterio revealed that he would like to capture the WWE Title to beat his dad's record. In 2011, Rey Mysterio held the WWE championship for less than two hours. Mysterio captured the title on the July 25 episode of Monday Night Raw that year, only to lose it at the very end of the night to John Cena. It would be the only time Mysterio held that particular championship.
Now, Dom wants to beat Rey's record, even if it is slightly longer than the 30 minutes Dom claimed it to be.
"With the legacy that Cody's building on on SmackDown for for the Undisputed Title and the legacy that's being built currently for the World Heavyweight Championship which Seth started and now Damian is carrying it. So I don't know, man. I think it's pretty special because my deadbeat ended up holding the World Title two times. Then, he ended up winning the WWE title just once for, I believe, it was maybe 30 minutes, and then Cena came back and took it from him. So, I think right now, I would love to beat his 30-minute record of WWE Champion. So I think the WWE Undisputed Title that Cody currently has; it has Mysterio history written all over it."
Before he can think about winning any singles titles, Dominik Mysterio has to think about making things right with Rhea Ripley. Learn how he plans to do that here.
John Cena will be retiring in 2025. Perhaps Dominik Mysterio will attempt to avenge his father's quick defeat during that run. Learn more about the retirement here.
