Drew Gulak Takes Andre Chase To School, Carmelo Hayes Beats Apollo Crews | NXT Fight Size

Here's your Fight Size update following WWE NXT on January 3, 2023:

- Drew Gulak showed some Chase U students some holds, and Andre Chase showed up. Gulak noted that he had "mixed results" with Chase's students, as he called them soft. Chase shut down the lesson and told his students to leave. Later in the show, the two teachers faced off, as Gulak battled Chase. Hank Walker accompanied Gulak to the ring, and Charlie Dempsey, who was in a sling, was shown watching the match backstage. Both men displayed their respective teaching styles. In the end, Gulak made Chase tap out to pick up the decisive win. Later in the show, Dempsey approached Drew Gulak and Hank Walker backstage. He noted that, injured or not, "it's on" next week.

Toni Storm To Compete At AEW Dynamite On 34th Street

- Apollo Crews faced Carmelo Hayes in a bout between two stars who are determined to earn a shot at NXT Champion Bron Breakker. Crews showcased his impressive strength, and Hayes countered with his own remarkable athleticism. The former WWE Intercontinental Champion overcame some interference from Trick Williams, but Hayes still put him down dor the three count. Axiom then came to the ring and blindsided Williams and Hayes after the match.

- Grayson Waller hosted the Grayson Waller Effect with NXT Champion Bron Breakker. Waller made fun of Breakker by comparing the champion to Goldberg and stating that he outsmarted Bron last week. Breakker fired back by pointing out that he knows Waller will give him his best shot, but it won't be enough to take the title from him. Waller responded by claiming that Breakker stole his dad's gimmick. Breakker then took the fight to Waller and slammed him to the mat. He then dove over the ropes and crashed down on Waller, as the champion stood tall to close the show.who wasn't fazed. Instead, he stated that Waller might get more attention next week, but he won't walk away with the title. When Waller tried to attack him, Breakker gained the upper and stunned the crowd when he dove over the ropes and took Waller out.

- In a video package, Channing "Stacks" Lorenzo was shown tied to a chair after he had clearly been beaten up. Dijak walked into the room and grabbed "Stacks" by the face. He told him he's the face of fear in NXT. "Stacks" then challenged him to a match. Dijak faced Stacks and, with Tony D'Angelo watching at ringside, he picked up a decisive win. He then went to attack Stacks, but D'Angelo made the save and challenged Dijak to a match next week.

- Axiom faced Trick Williams in a singles match. Williams grounded Axiom at different points in the match. NXT's resident superhero ultimately rallied and scored the win with a stiff kick. Carmelo Hayes and Trick Williams attacked Axiom until Apollo Crews came to the ring and evened the odds.

- Javier Bernal interrupted an Oro Mensah interview and revealed that he's coming out with a Christmas album. Mensah called it cringe and stated Bernal wouldn't have anything to sing about after their match. Once it was time for the bout, "Big Body Javy" attacked his opponent on his way to the ring. Still, Mensah emerged victorious, and he picked up a statement win.

- Gigi Dolin and Jacy Jayne came to the ring and said it was time to leave 2022 in the past. They vowed to cut through the roster and get revenge on NXT Women's Champion Roxanne Perez. Indi Hartwell interrupted and said it was time for new blood in the division, starting with her. Cora Jade also interrupted and said no one cares about Hartwell. She stated that she deserved to be the champion. Nikkita Lyons, Zoey Stark, and Wendy Choo all interrupted. Thea Hail chimed in and called it a girl fight and indeed, they all started brawling. The locker room emptied as the whole women's division brawled. Perez appeared and told them all to relax. She said that there will be a 20-woman battle royal next week, and the winner will earn a title shot at Vengeance Day.

- Alba Fyre and Isla Dawn brawled backstage to kick off their Extreme Resolution Match. Officials struggled to separate the two women as they kept fighting. Fyre took control and brought Dawn back into the arena. They entered the ring, so the match finally started. There, the action was evenly matched, as the two women went back and forth. In the end, Fyre slammed Dawn through a table for the win.

- A video package highlighted the feud between the Creed Brothers (Brutus & Julius Creed) and Indus Sher (Veer Mahaan & Sanga). Veer and Sanga discussed their background.

- Brooks Jensen, Josh Briggs, and Fallon Henley celebrated Fallon's win last week. Kiana James showed up and said she'd hold up her end of the bargain. She then told Jensen to text her later.

- In an interview, NXT North American Champion Wes Lee discussed his recent issues with Dijak and Tony D'Angelo. He said he's looking forward to their match next week, and he'll be watching closely because the winner will earn a shot at his title.

- - Schism (Joe Gacy, Jagger Reid, Rip Fowler & Ava Raine) confronted the New Day (Kofi Kingston & Xavier Woods), and Gacy told the duo that Schism, unlike the New Day, is a true family. Kingston then clashed with Gacy in a singles match. The two stars went back and forth, and Gacy's Schism stablemates tried to get involved, but Kingston still walked away with the win after he hit Trouble in Paradise.

- The New Day (Kofi Kingston & Xavier Woods) approached Pretty Deadly (Elton Prince & Kit Wilson) backstage. The former champions, tired of jumping through hoops, offered to compete in a Gauntlet Match next week. The New Day agreed to give them a title shot if they win.

- Another vignette teased the return of a mystery woman.

- The NXT Anonymous teased that everyone has secrets.

- In a WWE Digital Exclusive, Axiom discussed his win over Trick Williams. Apollo Crews joined the interview and noted that he was "all for" bringing Williams and Carmelo Hayes down a few notches.

- In a WWE Digital Exclusive, Alba Fyre shared her thoughts on her win over Isla Dawn, and she got distracted by her own thoughts.
